WORLD’S GREEN LUNGS is an international nonprofit humanitarian organization.
We want:
- To lay the foundations of nature conservation and create examples of rational resource exploitation, specifically in tropical areas of the less economically developed countries.
- To contribute to large-scale forest conservation and to forest area expansion overall.
- To evaluate the environmental, economic and social benefits of these changes.
Projekt Agroforestry
In order to create conditions leading to the improvement of the economic, social and environmental situation in the region, local authorities in the Maniema province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have entrusted us with the management of more than 17 000 km2 of forest area.
Our Goal
- Our goal is to replant 5 000 km2 of previously deforested land and make it suitable for the cultivation of appropriate commercial tree species as well as agricultural crop production.
- We will enable a variety of jobs in forestry and agriculture to come into being. We will develop the necessary infrastructure and construct indispensable schools and hospitals for more than 180 000 inhabitants who dwell in the region.
- Our goal is to save almost 11 000 km2 of untouched virgin tropical forests threatened by slash-and-burn agriculture and logging interests.
How we will do it
- We plan to develop a large scale, integrated Agroforestry Project.
- We will give native inhabitants an alternative to the destruction of indigenous forests. They will no longer need to burn or cut down valuable hardwoods to gain their livelihood. Thus we will be able to put into practice rules governing the use of land and forests.
- We will finance the project from private and public sources. Interested persons will be able to contribute through an adopt-a-tree plan, by purchasing carbon credits (VER) or through donations to our association.
- Implementation of the project will be administered by a team of skilled European professionals.
